SysPartsDirect | July 9 - IBM yesterday unveiled its next-generation Power architecture processors and Power11 servers. The newly designed systems feature innovations across processors, hardware architecture, and virtualization software stacks, delivering enterprise-grade availability, resilience, performance, and scalability.
IBM claims Power11 is the most "resilient" server in Power history:
- 99.9999% uptime (less than 30 seconds annual downtime)
- Zero planned maintenance downtime
- Built-in IBM Power Cyber Vault detects ransomware threats in under 60 seconds
The Power11 lineup includes high-end, midrange, and entry-level models, available both as physical servers and through IBM Power Virtual Server on IBM Cloud. It's also the first Power server to support Spyre AI inference accelerators.
Performance benchmarks show:
- 55% higher core efficiency vs Power9
- 45% more capacity in entry/midrange systems vs Power10
According to SysPartsDirect sources, Power11 retains the single-core/eight-thread design and uses specialized DDIMM memory modules.
Global availability starts July 25, 2025.
